The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland

Yes, the dream is still alive and of course, I had that song in my head all weekend long-- thanks, Portlandia (shout-out).

So in the few years I've lived in Seattle, I never had the time nor good fortune to visit Portland, Oregon. Until now.

My day job is butchering Chanel quotes and misusing potato chip slogans

I have a bone to pick with Coco Chanel.

She's a fashion icon, yes, and everything she has ever said is word, and everything she's touched has been kissed by holy kittens. Yes, these are all truths. But, my bone is with that classic Chanel line that has been quoted and requoted a billion times (and here is my own inept attempt to re-quote it. Enjoy.):

"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take off one accessory."

I understand the grand scheme that less is more. And if minimalism is your bag, my little Rothko friends, you can stop reading now.

Vintage dolls inspire my summer jewelry looks

A few weekends ago, I attended the Northwest Folklife Festival and it was my intention to scout out some new jewelry pieces while simultaneously getting an earful, and eyeful, of the hippie punk movement (oh and to eat a turkey leg as big as my head-- should I have even mentioned that?). However, I was with two dudes and I didn't want to burden them with my lusts for artistic jewelry so I kept my shopping to more unisex findings.

Heavy metal at the Punk Rock Flea Market?

"Screw you! Punk rock is its own reality and is not heavy metal!"  You scream in protest with fists in the air.

How very punk rock of you-- unless you're into punk metal. (But for my cause, let's just move on...)

Does it match or does it go?

First, to start with a sidenote: A little song came on my iTunes as I'm writing this, the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" and thanks to that, I hope you are humming the title of this post to the tune of it. You're welcome.
